Oil vs. Moisturiser - ding ding!

Written by on

Yep, there's a difference between using face oils and a cream moisturiser. So, who wins?

In the face oil corner:
Many plant oils can have a similar molecular structure to sebum (the natural oil skin produces on its own) making them super easy and readily absorbed by the skin

  • A little goes a long way (if you’re feeling oily after applying, you’re probably using too much)
  • The best ones are all-natural – like Goodness Certified Organic Chia Seed Oil (which does one better with organic certification from seed to bottle)

    In the cream moisturiser corner:

    • They’re emulsion blends of oils, extracts, waxes, water and all sorts of ingredients that can target certain problems or times of the day
    • They often have relaxing or invigorating fragrances added to them
    • They perfectly prep skin for make-up application by helping create a smoother surface

    The main difference:

While there’s a personal preference to using oil or a cream based moisturiser, probably the main difference comes from the additional ingredients cream based moisturisers are formulated with. These ‘extra’ ingredients, like honeysuckle, apple and bilberry extracts for example, have added benefit for the skin.

    Should you use both? Together?

Yep, it's a double-whammy of goodness. Plus you get to control and tailor your skin regime. There are a number of combinations for using plant oils and moisturisers together, and there’s no right or wrong way:

    1. After cleansing, use a plant oil

    2. After cleansing, use a plant oil, then a moisturiser

    3. After cleansing, add a couple of drops of your plant oil to your moisturiser then apply.

By using a plant oil with day and night creams, you can change up your routine by season, by day or night, or as your skin needs more or less TLC.
